Questions About Buying a Wood Fireplace
Tuesday
Oct 16, 2012
If you have questions about buying a wood fireplace, you’ve come to the right place. According to Census data, over 2.4 million homes heat with wood and the rising percentage is “faster than any other heating fuel,” as published in USAToday. More people every day begin researching whether this alternative heating option is right for them. With foreign oil prices high and the economy struggling to rebound, it’s understandable that Americans are looking for less expensive ways to heat their homes.
People explore wood fireplaces for a variety of reasons, but the common include:
An ample supply of wood for fuel. If you live in an area where wood is readily available and abundant, a wood fireplace or wood stove may be a good option for you. Not all wood is the same, and it’s not all the best for burning in your home. Learn more about kind, quality, and condition of wood you should burn in a fireplace.
Saving money on heating bills. This is another driving force for most people. Wood burning stoves and fireplaces are not the same as they were years ago. They’ve come a long way in technology, heat efficiency, and esthetics. Heating with wood can save you plenty of money, put out more heat than an older, traditional furnace, and “exceed expectations” as one owner puts it.
Inclement weather. Living in an area with frigid weather, frequent storms, and cumbersome power-outages is often another reason people seek out the reliable heat of a wood fireplace. Wood fireplaces and inserts can keep your house or business warm during a power outage, and we’ve posted more details here.
Whether you want to join the ranks of other American families who are happy with their choice in heat or simply want more information on the differences in fireplaces, American Energy Systems is your “go-to” place for information. You can speak with a heating specialist about your specific questions or concerns, or post them here and we’ll respond.

They recently shared this customer story with us, highlighting one customer’s savings over the past eight years!
“I purchased my Magnum Baby Countryside Corn and Pellet stove heater eight years ago and it has served me well. It has worked trouble free; all I have to do is keep it clean and keep the fuel clean and dry.
My Magnum Baby Countryside heater has cut my heating costs in half over the years. I fill it once a day and let it work.
It’s safe! If I open any doors on the unit, it will shut off (except the feed door.) There is no smell inside or outside of my house and there is no smoke; just clean heat. My heater heats all five rooms!” Jerry McRae

Can A Pellet Stove Be Hooked to a Thermostat?
Monday
Apr 2, 2012
Yes, Magnum Countryside and Country Flame furnaces, fireplace inserts, and stoves can be connected to a low voltage or millivolt wall thermostat. The control boards are not designed however to work with an electronic thermostat that requires power from the appliance.
When the wall thermostat calls for heat the appliance will go to the heat setting that has been pre-selected. When the wall thermostat has been satisfied (the room is up to temperature), the appliance will go to a pilot fire that is pre-programmed into the appliance. If you have the auto ignition system and are operation on fully automatic, the appliance will shut down completely until the wall thermostat calls for heat and then it will light the unit and run at the pre-set heat setting.

Do you have any fireplace inserts approved for use in an existing zero-clearance fireplace?
Thursday
Dec 29, 2011
Yes. In our catalytic line of wood stoves, the Country Flame model O2 is approved for use in zero-clearance fireplaces. It is specifically designed to fit into a very short fireplace at only 17 ½” in height. For more information on catalytic and non-catalytic terminology.
What is a zero-clearance fireplace?
A zero-clearance fireplace makes installing a fireplace in an existing home an affordable reality for many people. The Country Flame Model 02 is designed to take advantage of existing space and available venting/prefabricated chimney structures. It is important to check with the manufacturer of your Zero Clearance Fireplace to see if they allow the installation of a wood burning appliance into their fireplace. Sometimes it is best to take the Zero Clearance Fireplace out to accommodate the installation of your Country Flame Model O2 wood burning fireplace. Contact us to find out more about zero-clearance fireplaces and if the Model 02 is right for you.
