Keep Your Pellet Stove Vents Clean

Today’s post is a simple reminder to keep your vents clean.

Even if you are burning quality corn or wood pellets, fly ash can build up over time. You want your appliance to burn as cleanly and efficiently as possible, and we want that for you too!Tee vent with cleanout

Proper Vent Maintenance

  1. Always check to make sure your stove is getting adequate fresh air. Check the outside of your fresh air intake that landscaping hasn’t grown too close, snow hasn’t piled up, ice from moisture has not closed up the opening, or the wind hasn’t blown debris where it will block adequate fresh air.
  2. Clean out your exit vents on the outside of your home, again removing any soot or foreign debris/snow cover so air can move freely.
  3. Clean out the Tee vent behind your stove. Soot can build up there too. Be sure to place a rag or container underneath to catch any soot that falls and avoid any mess.

Venting should be checked monthly but might not need to be cleaned but a couple times over the winter depending on installation, fuel and operation. Make sure to re-seal any connections moved or taken apart.

Wasn’t that quick and easy?

I love my Magnum ZC fireplace. Very efficient. I found you by Googling high efficiency wood burning stoves. After comparing products, I purchased your fireplace 5 years ago when we built our retirement home. — Frank B.
